RAKETENAUTO ROCKET CAR - PW - W GERMANYSilver grey plastic space car with a clear plastic dome at the front containing a pilot. A wire is inserted into the end of the car and this depresses a spring: when released the car shoots forward.

This is the same pressing as the Jet-O-Car, an space car piece made by Thomas Toys in the US and by Poplar (their sister company) in Wales.

REX MARS PLANET PATROL PLAYSET - MARX - USAFollowing on from the success of the Tom Corbett playset in 1952, Marx released a playset for their own space hero creation, Rex Mars. The set consists of 110 pieces and is based on a lithographed tinplate control center with surrounding tin walls.

The set first appeared in October 1953.

ROCKET SHIP KIT - ARCHER - USAA winged V-2 style plastic rocket ship kit comprising nine pieces. The box back includes a cut-out of a launching platform. Window box 7"x15". The cut-out accounts for the destruction of many of the boxes. The similarity of the rocket to the one in the 1950 film Destination Moon is perhaps no coincidence. The ROCKET SHIP AND SPACE MEN SET is featured in the Blackwell Wielandy catalog for 1952.

The rocket was offered in other elusive combinations with Archer figures.

SPACE CARS - DILLON-BECK - USAA range of small plastic streamlined space cars. Futuristic designs produced by Dillon-Beck under their Wannatoys trading name.

There are two main types: the bubble top coupe with a colored plastic canopy (top) and a more spacey elongated oval design with side rails and a clear plastic canopy. (bottom) Made in a wide range of colors.

These date from around 1946.

SPACE CLIPPER - PIK-A-TOY? - CANADA? Hard plastic spaceship. Long rocket engines run along each side of the central body. This is identical to the Tudor Rose version. The example shown was sold in canada a bag with header card. It has no maker's mark. It is unclear whether this is a Canadian release or a begged import.

One of a range of six space toys designed as an extension of the original Pyro range. Similarities in the detail suggest that the original Pyro designer may have been involved in the design. There is also a friction version. Various colors: bronze, silver grey, blue.

The push along version was sold loose at Woolworths and also in a bag with header card. The friction version came in a colourful box.

SPACE CRUISER X-300 - TELEX - FINLANDA version of Pyro's X-300 Space Cruiser. Called RYMD RAKET on the box. Silver colored hard plastic with red wheels. SPACE CRUISER molded on the sides. This example is missing its pilot. 10 ins long with a distinctive needle on the end of the nose cone. It has a shorter upper and lower rear tail fin than the Pyro version, parts that are susceptible to damage. Marked Telex on the underside. Wittrock has been identified as the actual maker. Also sold in Denmark as Rumskib

A metallic blue hard plastic spaceship with two fuselage cockpits set into the wing.. This is a copy of the Marx original.

Marked MIP N645. This was on sale with the Twin Gun Spaceship and was distributed by Pierwood.

Moldex bought Pierwood in July 1954.

The card probably held various combinations of the small three-hull bronze and silver spaceships, copies of the Gilmark Supersonic originals. The figures are the hard rubber copies of the Thomas Toys originals. Thomas was a sister company of Poplar.

A brightly lithographed tin space port with a mechanism for ejecting a plastic Pyro X-300 Space Cruiser hard plastic rocket. This would account for the damage to many of the Pyro spaceships. Produced in a range of colors: green, bronze, silver, blue.

The spaceship has been dated to 1953 - it was advertised in an Australian paper in September that year.
