Mechanical Sparking Robot
Maker: Noguchi
Some call it the W Robot. What's the W stand for? I've no idea! IThe robot is a source of some confusion, largely because itappears in a number of guises and nationalities. This is one of the 'flapping feet' robots, so-called because of the box structures attached to wheels on the base. These give the illusion of a walking robot. This bulky, 'inflated' robot has a muscular look. So the letter W on its chest is its most useful distinguishing feature. (The box title isn't much use!) This is a delightful robot that has the virtue of looking right in any company.

There are three versions of the original that I know of: one has round stumpy arms, as pictured above; the second has more human arms, bent at the elbow and with fingers. The third version has thin bent plastic arms. In the 1970s the molds went on their travels, and this robot exists in Greek and Argentinian versions. The Greek one has the menacing eyebrows and the Pi lettering to replace the W.
