TALKING ROBOT
Maker: Yonezawa
In 1967 you could have had a Talking Robot in your Christmas stocking; it's in the catalog for that year but since it's not listed as a new item it was undoubtedly avalable before that date. The Talking Robot is a skirted robot based on the familiar Yonezawa body shell that forms the basis of classics such as Mr Robot, Modern Robot, and Cragstan Robot. It is, however, a radical departure from the others. Gone is the bump and go mechanism and the lighted head. Instead the Talking Robot has a simple friction motor that allows only a gentle, noisy forward movement. A single D cell battery operates the talking device. It's a wonderful macho voice.
I have converted the tracks into .wav files but they're around 50k. I clipped a little of the white noise to keep things as small as possible. Now you can listen without wearing out the mechanism!
