I suppose it's pronounced Roe - Bi, as in Moby Dick. It certainly makes it easy to distinguish this robot if we do. Roby is an unashamed Forbidden Planet Robby look-alike. There's the graceful metal head, the substantial clear dome and the detailed lithoed detailing that tries to suggest the complexity of the original. I'd be prepared to bet that this is the oldest of the three, because the bulbous legs and the stumpy forward pointing arms are essential for the knock-off to look right.

Roby's box is very hard to find, verging on very rare. It depicts a cartoon like picture of the robot on, yes you guessed, a mountainous landscape.

 It's hard to date these robots. They look like 50s pieces, but since the Conehead variation is definitely from the late 60s I'll wait for firmer evidence. It's so easy to call them 1950s just because you think they ought to be that old!
