PLANET ROBOT - Battery Op

Maker: KO Yoshiya

The metallic blue battery op must have been a more expensive purchase back in the 60s and this probably accounts for its relative scarcity. Yoshiya used the battery power well, and the robot walks briskly while it lights internally. The one button remote control simplifies the choice of direction.

I always took for granted the fact that the main components were the same as for the clockwork version, though there are some minor differences. The vertical antenna (only) turns when the toy walks and a silver fan rotates in the head glinting when illuminated by the lamp. The metal ears are the tiny ones found on the earliest of the clockwork Planet Robots.

I am aware of only one colour variation, a metallic maroon. I'm sure that other colours are out there.

It's back to drawing school for the artist of pinhead Robby.

This robot usually has the earlier metal hands and occasionally the rubber ones. The bright red box is striking, but the artist still manages to distort the look of the robot. There's a side on view of the robot but his proportions look all wrong, but it's quaint.
