PISTON ACTION ROBBY

Maker: Nomura

Nomura's second attempt at a Robby was the Piston Action Robot, known as the 'Pug' or 'Pudgy' Robby because of its wide girth and short legs. Available in silver/black , silver/blue, silver/maroon variations, (and probably more). Above you can see the regular box. Below is the rarer box variation associated with the silver/black Robby.

There is a piston mechanism in the head, two looped wire ears, and the rubber three-fingered hands. This Robby is powered by batteries in a remote control unit. The legs are an innovation: Nomura have incorporated the feet into the leg pressing. Gone is the distinctive red shoe; there is no articulation of the foot, giving the motion a strange stiffness and making the leg look clumpy. Still, it's the oddness that makes them great!
