SPACE MAN

Maker: Nomura

The Space Man is very similar to Earth Man: the legs, body and head are the same pressings, distinguished by their different lithography. The rich reds and greys of this astronaut are very appealing. If you look closely you'll see a wealth of detail: handles, wrenches and clips. The arms are, however, quite different pressings and he's carrying the distinctive Nomura space rifle.

The battery compartment is one of the highly prized box units, though it has perhaps the least appealing detailing of all of them, merely a slender rocket and the wording BATTERY BOX, (just in case you hadn't figured it out.)

Nomura have made the most of the battery action. In addition to the walking action he has a head lamp and he's carrying a torch. It is hard to locate appropriate light bulbs for this type of robot and it's even more difficult to replace them. The box has a very stylish black background which gives impact to the art work. The scenes extend to all of the box panels. The astronaut seems to be walking through space. (He must be tired of mountainous planets.)

There is a second colour variation which is much harder to find, it is has a blue body with red helmet. He comes with a blue battery box. The litho detail includes a rope and some stout stitching on his suit. This version has a different box design; it's bright blue with the Space Man firmly planted on the ground (yes... a mountainous planet!)
