Mighty Robot

Maker: KO Yoshiya

One of Yoshiya's group of three skirted robots (See also Chief Robot Man and Chief Smoky). The skirted robot was relatively simple to construct, had a cheap but effective movement mechanism (bump and go), and sold well. Yoshiya had only to make a few adjustments to an existing design and they would have a new robot for the market.

Mighty Robot's head is by any standards an impressive construction. A clear plastic box holds 16 intermeshed gears. These sit in two banks of eight, on either side of the large face. In additional there's internal illumination. Unlike its partners, the head does not turn. It is a very impressive sight, particularly in subdued light.

I'm only aware of a metallic grey-blue version of this robot, and I've only seen it with the broad red plastic arms. The plastic head is vulnerable to damage, and it is often seen with cracks or pieces missing. The gears themselves are the standard Yoshiya star-shaped plastic ones found on the High Wheel robots. The other comments about the repair of Chief Robot Man apply to this robot, though the complex head makes it more difficult.
