CRAGSTAN ASTRONAUT & SPACE MAN
Maker: Yonezawa
The Cragstan Astronaut (Kitahara #20) and Space Man (Kitahara #21) are clockwork astronauts. At first glance they are a reworking of the Yonezawa skirt body as seen on Mr Robot and the like. Thay are, however, quite different and look to be an earlier design - late 1950s rather than early 1960s.
The head is a metal dome with a visor panel revealing the young boy astronaut. A crank on the back is wound to provide power for two eccentric wheels that allows the robot to waddle forward. The Cragstan Astronaut is red with a fixed 'mouth' while the Space Man is blue and has a moving 'mouth'. It's interesting to note that the Astronaut carries the Cragstan importer's logo, whilst the Space Man was imported by Rosko. These importers names are a constant source of confusion in robot collecting and they frequently obscure the name of the true manufacturer.
